The Religious Education Program serves all registered members of the SS. Philip and James Parish who attend public or non-Catholic Christian schools, ages four through seventh grade. No student is denied access to catechesis because of race, national origin, or physical or mental challenges.
The program's objectives are:
Provide a living faith environment that calls students to learn their faith and to seek a personal relationship with Jesus through prayer and sacraments.
Assist parents to understand their unique role in the development of the faith life of their children.
Provide adolescents with opportunities to insert themselves actively into the faith and good works of the church.
Facilitate the preparation of students for the Sacraments of Christian Initiation.
For the 2024–2025 school year, here are the options for you to choose from:
K meets on Sunday mornings from 10:30–11:30 AM.
In-person PREP Class for Grades 1-6 meets on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings from 6:30–7:45 PM.
In-person PREP Class for Grade 7 meets on Wednesday evening from 6:30-7:45 PM.
Family Catechesis program, where the parent and child(ren) attend one in-person session each month after the Noon Mass on Sunday, and then the parent teaches the next four lessons to his/her child(ren) prior to returning for the next in-person session. Ideally, families would attend the Noon Mass prior to class. The Family Catechesis program is available for children in Grades 1, 3, 4, 5 & 6. Those children in sacramental years must attend in-person classes as outlined below.
Sacrament Classes First Communion Those preparing for First Communion, typically in Grade 2, must attend the in-person PREP Class on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings from 6:30–7:45.
Confirmation Those preparing for Confirmation, typically in Grade 7, have 2 options:
Attend Camp Caritas at Bishop Shanahan High School
or
Attend the in-person PREP Class Level 7 on Wednesday evenings from 6:30–7:45.
All Confirmation candidates are expected to fulfill the requirements provided at the Confirmation Parent Meeting, held in September.
